April 23th is a date that has always been tied, direct or indirectly, to literature and popular traditions.
Catalan knights who divided towards the East, didn’t imagine the repercussion that their statements would have on the worship to a local saint: Sant Jordi. Later on, these statements would adapt to the knight’s medieval tradition fighting against the evil.
The legend that arose is well-known: Sant Jordi fights against the wicked dragoon that keeps the princess retained. Finally, Sant Jordi wins and in the place where the dragoon spills his blood a rose-bush grows as a sign of love and friendship.
But what definitively has pushed to the importance of this day has been that now it has been considered like the international day of the book.
